Learning to code prepares kids for the world we live in today. Computing is involved in almost all aspects of our lives, from communications and education to social media, banking, information, security and shopping. Networked computers are capable of controlling our homes’ thermostats and lighting, our cars and our health records.

If grade-schoolers are taught biology and mathematics in order to understand the world around them, then knowing the basics of how computers communicate—and how to engage with them—should be a given…

There are tons of jobs and occupations that use code directly, like web designers, software developers and robotics engineers, and even more where knowing how to code is a huge asset—jobs in manufacturing, nanotechnology or information sciences. When students attend our coding classes we focus on the skills that come with computer programming and help students develop new ways of thinking and foster problem-solving techniques that can have a big impact in other areas.

Beyond the practical reasons for learning how to code, at Code4Bots Coding classes and camps our students agree with the fact that creating a game or animation can be really fun for kids. CODING IS FUN at Code4Bots!

Scratch Jr. Coding Class 

Scratch Jr is an introductory programming language that enables young students to create their own interactive stories and games. Students snap together graphical programming blocks to make characters move, jump, dance, and sing. At Code4Bots Scratch Jr. Coding Class, students learn modify characters in the paint editor, add their own voices and sounds, even insert photos of themselves — then use the programming blocks to make their characters come to life.
Coding (or computer programming) is a new type of literacy. Just as writing helps you organize your thinking and express your ideas, the same is true for coding. In the past, coding was seen as too difficult for most people. But we think coding should be for everyone, just like writing.
As young students course the ScratchJr coding class, they learn how to create and express themselves with the computer, not just to interact with it. In the process, students learn to solve problems and design projects, and they develop sequencing skills that are foundational for later academic success. They also use math and language in a meaningful and motivating context, supporting the development of early-childhood numeracy and literacy. With ScratchJr, students aren’t just learning to code, they are coding to learn.

Scratch Coding Class 

Scratch is a visual programming language and online community targeted primarily at children, by coding with ‘blocks’ in the editor. Students can create online projects using a block-like interface. The ability to code computer programs is an important part of literacy in today’s society. When students learn to code in Scratch, they learn important strategies for solving problems, designing projects, and communicating ideas.

Scratch is not exclusively for creating games. At Code4Bots Scratch Coding Class, we provide the visuals for students to create animations, text, and more. There are already many programs which students can use to learn topics in math, history, and even photography using conceptual and visual lessons and science lab assignments with animations that help visualize difficult concepts.  Our Scratch coding class allows students to understand the logic of programming and how to creatively build and collaborate. Scratch lets students create “meaningful personal as well as educational projects” which gives students a “practical tool” to express themselves after learning to use the language.

Python Coding Class 

Python is an object-oriented, high-level programming language with integrated dynamic semantics primarily for web and app development. It is extremely attractive in the field of Rapid Application Development. At Code4Bots Python coding class, we make Python relatively simple, so it’s easy to learn since it requires a unique syntax that focuses on readability. Students can read and translate Python code much easier than other languages. Python is a general-purpose programming language, which is another way to say that it can be used for nearly everything.
Python coding class is a great class for beginners because of its readability and other structural elements designed to make it easy to understand, Python is not limited to basic usage. In fact, it powers some of the world’s most complex applications and website.
The python coding class teaches students to do everything from GUI development, Web application, System administration tasks, Financial calculation, Data Analysis, Visualization, etc.

Greenfoot Coding Class 

Greenfoot is a combination of a Java IDE that provides a class browser, compilation, interactive execution, single-step execution, a code editor, etc., on one hand and a framework for creating two-dimensional animations, games, and simulations on the other hand. Greenfoot coding class is a visual and interactive program that uses object orientation with Java to build games, simulations, and other graphical programs. At Code4Bots, students who are new to the Java programming language enjoy the Greenfoot coding class because the interactive development environment is fun and easy to use; built with beginners in mind, making it a fantastic introductory platform for new students

Java Script is one of the coding and programming languages that Children in San Antonio learn at the Code4Bots learning center.

JavaScript Coding Class 

Code4Bots offers a JavaScript coding class. JavaScript is a programming language for the web. It is primarily used to enhance web pages to provide for a more user friendly experience. These include dynamically updating web pages, user interface enhancements such as menus and dialog boxes, animations, 2D and 3D graphics, interactive maps, video players, and more.
JavaScript is a full-fledged programming language interpreter embedded inside web browsers. Students will learn to:

  • Declare variables
  • Store and retrieve values
  • Define and invoke functions
  • Define classes
  • Load and use external modules
  • Write event handlers that respond to user and other events

PHP scripting language and other coding classes offered at Code4Bots a learning center in San Antonio

PHP Coding Class 

PHP is probably the most popular scripting language on the web. It is used to enhance web pages. Our PHP coding class, teaches students to create username and password login pages, check details from a form, create forums, picture galleries, surveys, and a whole lot more. Students will also learn to use PHP to perform calculations, collect user information, interact with MySQL Databases and work with cookies.

Arduino and other coding and programming languages available at Code4Bots in San Antonio Texas

Arduino Coding Class 

Arduino is an open-source electronics platform based on easy-to-use hardware and software. Students will learn that Arduino boards are able to read inputs – light on a sensor, a finger on a button, or a Twitter message – and turn it into an output – activating a motor, turning on an LED, publishing something online. Our Arduino coding class focuses on the fact that the Arduino Software (IDE) is easy-to-use for beginners, yet flexible enough for advanced users to take advantage of as well. We combine this class with our UKIT advanced course, to introduce physical learning, logic, building skills, and problem solving. Arduino’s Immersive Educational Environment promotes the creative process through project-based learning, with a focus on student interaction and group collaboration.

Raspberri Pi Coding Class

Raspberry Pi Coding Class 

The Raspberry Pi is a low cost, credit-card sized computer that plugs into a computer monitor or TV, and uses a standard keyboard and mouse. It is a capable little device that enables students to explore computing, and to learn how to program in languages like Scratch and Python. It’s capable of doing everything you’d expect a desktop computer to do, from browsing the internet and playing high-definition video, to making spreadsheets, word-processing, and playing games.

At the Code4Bots Raspberry Pi coding class we emphasize on the Raspberry Pi’s ability to interact with the outside world. This ability has been used in a wide array of digital maker projects, from music machines and parent detectors to weather stations and tweeting birdhouses with infra-red cameras. Raspberry Pi coding class teaches students to program and understand how computers work.

Code4Bots offers After School Robotics Classes at many CISD elementary campuses. Visit our after school robotics program page to learn how your child will explore the exciting world of robotics and engineering (STEM). Our robotics program combines the versatility of Jimu™ building blocks and intuitive drag-and-drop programming software. This adventure encourages teamwork, problem solving, and creativity. Students get to take their robot home after course completion!

Our robotics program engages students in hands-on STEM learning by programming robots using different coding platforms, from Blockly to C++ or by creating entirely new, custom actions with the PRP (Pose, Record, Play) functions. Our Robot kits will strengthen student’s programming skills and provide invaluable learning experiences.

Scratch Coding: Themed Projects

– Introduction to computer programming.

– We generate interest and curiosity while establishing a sense of competency.

– No previous knowledge of coding is required.

– Separate teams for different age-groups

– We use different projects to trigger boys’ & girls’ interests:

  • Storytelling: Create fun and interactive stories through coding.
  • Fashion & Design & Arts: Learn how coding and technology are used in the fashion industry.
  • Game Design and Animation: learn to code different games, including racing, platform, maze, … etc
  • Sports: learn to code your own fitness gadget commercial, and create commentary for a big sporting event.
  • Social Media: learn to code fun social media style applications and games.

Game Development Track:

– This is an advanced game development workshop using Python concepts and applications.

– Students learn new game mechanics and techniques using basic syntax and logic structuring.

– Students learn to build a full-fledged game they’ll be excited to share with their friends and family.

– Expand students’ imagination and options when building their own games.

– Previous coding experience is preferred but not necessary.

Web Development Track

– This is a website development workshop using HTML, CSS and JavaScript.

– Students learn advanced web development, including scripting to make interactive web pages.

– Students learn to create a shareable interactive web page and a personality quiz web application project.

– Students will understand how to create a new website or alter existing web pages.

– Previous coding experience is preferred but not necessary.

Basic Syntax, Strings, While Loops, Variables, Arguments, If Statements, Functions, Advanced HTML, Basic CSS, Basic Web Scripting, Advanced JavaScript, Basic Event Handling, …etc

Lego Mindstorms EV3: Robot Craftsman

LEGO® MINDSTORMS® EV3 Robot Craftsman class gives students the power to create and command their own robotic LEGO® creatures, vehicles, machines and inventions! Builders will love building and coding their fully-functional robot to walk, talk, and even play games or complete tasks! This educational STEM robot makes engineering fun for everyone who builds it. The Lego® Mindstorm® EV3 Robot Craftsman class is designed to teach core computer programming logic and reasoning skills using a robotics engineering context. Students will master the use of analog sensors, learn about robotic design and  apply age-appropriate math and physics concepts.

Lego WeDo 2.0: Robot Apprentice

LEGO® Education WeDo 2.0 Robot Apprentice classes are developed to engage and motivate elementary students’ interest in learning science- and engineering-related subjects. This is done through the use of motorized LEGO models and simple programming. The LEGO® WeDo 2.0 Robotic Apprentice class is a hands-on STEM solution that combines the LEGO® brick, friendly software and engaging projects. We use a hands-on approach to design, build and program a simple robots. Our class enhances students’ curiosity, logic skills and problem-solving strategies.

Jimu Robots: Robot Maker

Welcome to the world of Jimu™ Robots. Our classes focus on an interactive robotic building block system that emboldens students to build and program amazing robots. Students engage in hands-on STEAM learning by programming JIMU™ robots using the Blockly coding platform, or by creating entirely new, custom actions with the PRP (Pose, Record, Play) function. JU™ Robotics classes will strengthen our students programming skills and provide invaluable learning experiences. Our Jimu™ lineup includes robot kits such as Builderbots, UnicornBot, Buzzbot & Muttbot, Astrobot, Explorer Kit and Inventor Kit.
