What is FIRST® LEGO® League?

When students are engaged in hands-on STEM experiences, they build confidence, grow their knowledge and develop habits of learning.
FIRST® LEGO® League is the most accessible, guided, global robotics competition, helping students and teachers to build a better future together. The program is built around theme-based Challenges to engage children ages 9 to 14 in research, problem solving, coding, and engineering. The foundation of the program is the FIRST® Core Values, which emphasize teamwork, discovery, and innovation. Students emerge more confident, excited, and equipped with the skills they need in a changing workforce.

Guided by Code4Bots Coaches, FIRST® LEGO® League teams research a real-world problem such as food safety, recycling, energy, etc., and are challenged to develop a solution. They also must design, build, program a robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS® technology, then compete on a table-top playing field. It all adds up to tons of fun while they learn to apply science, technology, engineering, and math concepts (STEM), plus a big dose of imagination, to solve a problem. In their journey, they develop critical thinking and team-building skills, basic STEM applications, and presentation skills. Participants also practice the Program’s signature Core Values.

What makes a team?

A team is 2-10 students, ages 9-14, willing to take on any job to help their team succeed (lots of jobs available for all skill levels and interests). Two or more Code4Bots coaches to guide the team through discovery and the competition season.

This 2019-2020 season “CITY SHAPER” is setting out to inspire citizens of the galaxy to work together, strengthening and protecting the Force that binds us and creating a place where collaboration and collective wisdom can elevate new ideas and foster growth. Cost and Registration

Code4Bots charges a one time registration fee of $100 to cover the teams ​Robotics kit, Robotics expansion kit FLL registration, team shirts and other supplies.

Code4Bots also charges a monthly tuition of $100. Students attend a 2 hour class every week and will complete a rigorous 6 month curriculum that will prepare them for their Regional Competition.

**Please note these costs do not include expenses when and if the team advances to National Level Competition. Any additional costs will be communicated as the team advances.

Commitment Pledge

FLL candidates and parents must pledge their full commitment to the team for the entire 6 month season. If FLL candidate chooses to leave the team voluntarily, their registration and all tuition paid to date will be forfeited. Please understand that a complete team is vital to the overall success of the team.

Scratch Coding: Themed Projects

– Introduction to computer programming.

– We generate interest and curiosity while establishing a sense of competency.

– No previous knowledge of coding is required.

– Separate teams for different age-groups

– We use different projects to trigger boys’ & girls’ interests:

  • Storytelling: Create fun and interactive stories through coding.
  • Fashion & Design & Arts: Learn how coding and technology are used in the fashion industry.
  • Game Design and Animation: learn to code different games, including racing, platform, maze, … etc
  • Sports: learn to code your own fitness gadget commercial, and create commentary for a big sporting event.
  • Social Media: learn to code fun social media style applications and games.

Game Development Track:

– This is an advanced game development workshop using Python concepts and applications.

– Students learn new game mechanics and techniques using basic syntax and logic structuring.

– Students learn to build a full-fledged game they’ll be excited to share with their friends and family.

– Expand students’ imagination and options when building their own games.

– Previous coding experience is preferred but not necessary.

Covered concepts: Basic Syntax, Arguments, Variables, Strings, If Statements, Arithmetic, While Loops, Arrays, Functions, Parameters, Object Literals, For Loops, Boolean Logic, …etc

Web Development Track

– This is a website development workshop using HTML, CSS and JavaScript.

– Students learn advanced web development, including scripting to make interactive web pages.

– Students learn to create a shareable interactive web page and a personality quiz web application project.

– Students will understand how to create a new website or alter existing web pages.

– Previous coding experience is preferred but not necessary.

Basic Syntax, Strings, While Loops, Variables, Arguments, If Statements, Functions, Advanced HTML, Basic CSS, Basic Web Scripting, Advanced JavaScript, Basic Event Handling, …etc

I. More than 2 weeks before the start date: we will process 100% refund.

II. Two weeks or less from start date: we will process 100% refund minus $50 (admin fees).

III. No refunds will be issued after the start of the program. Parent/guardian can apply to reschedule classes upon the approval of Code4Bots registration team.

Lego Mindstorms EV3: Robot Craftsman

LEGO® MINDSTORMS® EV3 Robot Craftsman class gives students the power to create and command their own robotic LEGO® creatures, vehicles, machines and inventions! Builders will love building and coding their fully-functional robot to walk, talk, and even play games or complete tasks! This educational STEM robot makes engineering fun for everyone who builds it. The Lego® Mindstorm® EV3 Robot Craftsman class is designed to teach core computer programming logic and reasoning skills using a robotics engineering context. Students will master the use of analog sensors, learn about robotic design and  apply age-appropriate math and physics concepts.

Lego WeDo 2.0: Robot Apprentice

LEGO® Education WeDo 2.0 Robot Apprentice classes are developed to engage and motivate elementary students’ interest in learning science- and engineering-related subjects. This is done through the use of motorized LEGO models and simple programming. The LEGO® WeDo 2.0 Robotic Apprentice class is a hands-on STEM solution that combines the LEGO® brick, friendly software and engaging projects. We use a hands-on approach to design, build and program a simple robots. Our class enhances students’ curiosity, logic skills and problem-solving strategies.

Jimu Robots: Robot Maker

Welcome to the world of Jimu™ Robots. Our classes focus on an interactive robotic building block system that emboldens students to build and program amazing robots. Students engage in hands-on STEAM learning by programming JIMU™ robots using the Blockly coding platform, or by creating entirely new, custom actions with the PRP (Pose, Record, Play) function. JU™ Robotics classes will strengthen our students programming skills and provide invaluable learning experiences. Our Jimu™ lineup includes robot kits such as Builderbots, UnicornBot, Buzzbot & Muttbot, Astrobot, Explorer Kit and Inventor Kit.
